What is a ghz file, can we create our own if GH does not host our country?

The ghz files on the Graphhopper site at download2.graphhopper.com/public/maps/0.13 do not include maps for New Zealand. I’m trying https://download2.graphhopper.com/public/maps/0.13/oceania/new_zealand.ghz
What is a ghz file, is it just a zip of the osm file, can I make my own and then host it somewhere so I can download ?
I’m using this with the offline VTM grapphopper demo found here https://github.com/graphhopper/graphhopper/blob/master/android/README.md

apologies for my newbie-ness, does the graphhopper.sh file need to be run on linux? I’m on windows

For windows usage you need cygwin:

Either get [Babun](http://babun.github.io/) which comes preinstalled with git and more. Or download [cygwin](http://www.cygwin.com/) and click on the setup where you need to select wget, git and unzip.

```bash
# go to your development area
$ cd /cygdrive/c/Dokumente und Einstellungen/peter/dev

# get the sources
$ git clone https://github.com/graphhopper/graphhopper.git

# go into graphhopper root
$ cd graphhopper

# and execute
$ ./graphhopper.sh -a web -i europe_germany_berlin.pbf
```

Now graphhopper web should start. After this open [http://localhost:8989/](http://localhost:8989/) in your browser.
