OSM next/previous way in series?

I’m looking into trying to find the next and previous ways to build a set of ways that represent a road for about that spans multiple ways. For the routing engine how does it know how the ways connect to each other?

For example I’m looking for all the ways along 85th and how they connect together end to end?

OSM ways are given as lists of OSM node IDs. Ways are connected if they share a node (the junction). OSM ways can represent multiple connected ‘roads’ and multiple OSM ways might be used to represent a single long road. If you need to find all OSM way IDs that are part of a, e.g., long interstate road you could try to filter the ways based on the ‘name’ tag.
